REVIEW: BBgail 'What's the Point???'
[Repost from Arizona Underground; August 8, 2026]
Phoenix based artist BBGail just released her debut EP "What's the Point???" about a month back, and I knew from the first time I heard her play this EP live that it wouldn't disappoint, and I'd say it has me just as hooked now as it did when I first saw her perform it!
It's so fun and quirky, while also having personal and introspective lyrics that give this album a very well rounded track list, but the biggest thing that I think will draw you in is the production of this record.
Let's make one thing clear from the get go: this EP will have you in a trance. The production is absolutely spot on, it sounds like the music is literally all around me while I'm listening, and the vibe overall is just relaxing. I kind of wish I had better words to describe it but truly this is such an easy record to replay and just get lost in I can almost just close my eyes and imagine drifting in space while listening, the vibe is just so relaxing.
The EP starts off just right with the title track "What's the Point???", which immediately puts you in the mood and mindset of this EP with introspective lyrics about love, life, friendship, and being stuck in our own heads.
From there it continues with this theme on "Past Life" where this EP shows its quirkier side, because at the end of the day it really isn't our fault in a past life 200 people died.
One of my favorite tracks though has to be "Love Bomb" this track is so so good, if any track on this EP will put you in a trance it's this one. It has this ascending and descending synth melody that repeats through the whole song, with a more lo-fi sound and lyrics as the title suggests of love bombing and wondering if any of it is even real, I love everything about this song and it's one I've had on repeat for a while now.
Another standout track is "Book of Love", this song is so peaceful and almost other worldly, this is another one that I feel I can just put on and get lost in. I don't have any words other than to say this song is beautiful.
I highly recommend if you're a fan of chill synth-pop and into bands like Men I Trust, you will get so much out of this EP. I think BBGail has made a marvelous record, and there is certainly much to be proud of here with this EP. The production is amazing, the song craft is top notch, it's one that I'm definitely going to keep on my playlist and have on repeat for a very long time.
I hope to hear a full album, or just more music from BBGail in general very soon! Definitely go check this EP out as well as the rest of her back catalogue, and whatever shows she's playing next I would highly advise going to see her, it's a set certainly worth catching!
