New Song: "Fight For the Good" by Wet & Reckless
Like many musicians right now, Emily Brooks Wilder, frontwoman of the Los Angeles, California band Wet & Reckless, has been focusing her thoughts around racial injustice into her own music. She recently recorded a fantastic new song, titled "Fight For the Good", and has made the track available on YouTube for the world to enjoy. Take a moment to listen to "Fight For the Good" by Wet & Reckless here: https://youtu.be/ivo9bzL0-ZI. We hope you find Emily's words to be as healing and welcomed as we do.

Meet Emily Wilder of Wet & Reckless in Echo Park
[REPOST from VoyageLA.com]
Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Wilder.
Emily, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Wet & Reckless started with bassist Jessica Gelt (The Movies) and me (Emily Wilder) as two-piece outfit in Echo Park after a late night discussion about how California ridiculously decided to legally name a DUI “Wet & Reckless”. We decided to embrace that ridiculousness later as a three-piece all-girl band about nine years ago, after all coming from different bands with bossy boys. This was when there weren’t as many girl bands. We’d go to our rehearsal space at Bedrock when it first opened and would laugh and cry and just do music the way we wanted. In the beginning, we were put on bills with more “pretty players”. Now we know so many girls in bands that play more rock than Starbucks stylings. We toured across the states over the years. We all lived in the same building and at the end of the hall was Jalise Woodward, who joined our band on the drum kit. Now we’ve mixed up players a couple of times. We recorded many albums but felt really happy with producer, Kristofer Sampson (Atlanta), Tom Biller who mastered it and released our first album in 2015 on cassette with Lollipop Records. Right now we are recording our second album with Dylan Ely of Portia Street Studios and really excited about this next release.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Ha! You are talking about the music industry right? Yes, many struggles, but it’s all been worth it. I grew up in a music family and always make the joke, “music will ruin your life”, but I couldn’t live without it. I am a sucker for good lyrics and what better way to break, heal and survive in this human condition than writing music.

I am a sucker for good lyrics and what better way to break, heal and survive in this human condition than writing music.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Jessica is a writer, Jalise is an artist and I (Emily) direct stop motion animation films. Our band is a sisterhood and cuts through the thick of the daily grit. I like the storytelling aspect of songs. I guess that’s what drives me. Hmm, what makes us different? Well, I know all of our moms think we are special. But in all seriousness, we are not hired guns or perfect. We are a family; a truly special bond that has been building for years.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think we are an unruly bunch with an honest perspective, even if it is self-deprecating. Music is so subjective and there is something out there for everyone. The most important thing we can do is make someone laugh, cry, not feel so alone, or just feel anything at all.

WET & RECKLESS GO TO THE MOVIES
Before she played bass guitar in Wet & Reckless, Tucson's own Jessica Gelt was in another Los Angeles post-punk / new-wave band called The Movies. Now part-time television producer, not to mention staff writer at the Los Angeles Times, Gelt has partnered with Maker.tv, fashion brand NYLON, and writers Brian Canning (Irving, Afternoons) and Christian Casucci, to put together a 10-episode web series called Oh, You Pretty Things!, loosely based on the travails of The Movies.
Kevin Bronson from Buzzbands.LA has a great story about the web series you can read here.
Maker Studios has release a soundtrack for the web series that you can purchase from iTunes here, which includes two brand new tracks from Wet & Reckless - "Confetti" and "Bad Blood."
Listen to "Confetti" here:

If you enjoyed all that, don't forget you can still purchase Wet & Reckless' split 7inch with Tracy Shedd directly from our website!

YESTERDAY WAS AN EPIC DAY! (AND DAMN-IT, WE'VE GOT THE PHOTOS TO PROVE IT)
Thank you to everyone who made Friday, April 22nd, the most special day in our one year existence! It truly was an epic day, beginning with a quick visit with Jason Repko at the KXCI 91.3 studio. Dan Sheffer from local television station Tucson-12 stop by as well to see what was going on. Tucson-12 will be putting together a feature on Fort Lowell Records to air at a later date.
As the afternoon rolled into the evening, Allie Baron (AKA: The Vinyl Baron) kicked off the party at Hotel Congress on the patio, while inside Dead Western Plains was getting set up to blow our minds (once again).
Zach Toporek was first on stage outside on the patio, starting the night with a solo set, and then joined by his band Young Mothers.
Our host, Zachary Elias Clark from KAMP Student Radio, welcomed the ladies from Los Angeles CA, Wet & Reckless, to the stage following Young Mothers. Again, Dan Sheffer from Tucson-12 was on hand to capture the greatness happening at Hotel Congress.
Inside Club Congress, our favorite DJ from KXCI 91.3, Jaime J, was getting the crowd warmed up with his sweet jams, followed by a mind-blowing performance by Dead Western Plains (AKA: The Men in White). Notice: even Dead Western Plains' drums were dressed in white!
Tracy Shedd kept the music flowin' outside on the patio immediately following Dead Western Plains; playing a few guitar gems, followed by her lovely work on piano. Did anyone else catch her cover on The Magnetic Fields' "Candy," or her rockin' poppin' cover of our own Death Kit's "I Can Make You Love Me?" No? Your loss man, they were both rad!
Speaking of Death Kit... holy jeeze! They killed it inside Club Congress! Believe it or not, we had never actually seen Death Kit live before, so we were just as curious as anyone else. But seriously, Death Kit was amazing! We are so happy both Death Kit and Wet & Reckless were able to drive out from Los Angeles CA to join us for this special event.
If you did catch Death Kit's performance inside Club Congress, you just might have missed a very special guest that just happened to stop by Hotel Congress for the celebrations... Howe Gelb! Due to Howe's busy touring schedule, we were not 100% sure he would be able to make it out, but very happy to have received a text from him at about 10:30pm saying "Just pulled up." For those of you that did catch Howe Gelb's performance, I am sure you will agree that it was quite a treat!
Jaime J delivered a very special performance as well inside Club Congress just before ...music video? wrapped the night up (as well as before Death Kit earlier in the night). He is not only an amazing DJ with an excellent taste in music, but he's a great performer who knows how to get the party started! ...music video? followed with another amazing set showing us that electronic music does have a heart and soul, and can be a lot of fun to watch being performed live. Our favorite is when they perform "I'm Afraid of Everything," their song from their Fort Lowell Records 7inch. (Sorry, we totally forgot to take a photo of ...music video? from the show last night, so Paul sent us this one from their CD Release Party at Plush from a few weeks ago.)
Lastly, we've have to take a moment to say "Thank You" to all of the great folks at Hotel Congress and Club Congress: David Slutes, Dan Hernandez, Dana Fehr, Zack (sound engineer for the patio), Elizabeth (the manager who took care of us all night), and Larry and the roller derby lady (the bartenders that kept the drink flowin' all night)! You all rock, and we love you all!
Thank you Tucson!
Thank you everyone!
