BAND & THE BEAT (FEATURING TRACY SHEDD)

Folks, our very own Tracy Shedd and yours truly have a new project called Band & The Beat. To start, we've taken some of Tracy Shedd's hit singles from her career, and we synthesized them; meaning, we are playing them with an analog synthesizer, electric piano, a drum machine, and electric guitars. Rest assure, we've got a number of brand new tunes in the Dream Pop Perculator, as well as plans for an October Tour! There is no pre-programmed sampling going on here, folks; this stuff is coming at'cha' 100% live! Take a listen below, and stay tuned to this site, as we will have more to report out about Band & The Beat soon!

THE QUAKER GOES DEAF ALBUM REVIEW: HEY MANDIBLE

Hey Mandible—The Arse

New album from band out of Jacksonville, Florida—heavy guitar indie rock with psychedelic outer space noise blasts that mediate the volatile rock ‘n’ roll middle ground between power pop hooks and angry feedback/distorto riffs. “The Arse” integrates noise and melody in a fluid, punch-you-out hug of addictively dark and challenging song structure, where distortion never overpowers, but always provides a muscular compliment. These are songs that hit you hard with a punk-edged face-slap that has just the right amount of warmth & sting to call your back again. 500 copies on green marble vinyl, and the cover art by Laura Bearl is a trip. (The 50s housewife taking the smiling little broasted baby out of the oven has horns and furry, hoofed legs.) Similarities to bands like Dumb Numbers, Turn Me On Dead Man, Dinosaur Jr., Mission Of Burma, Black Level Embassy, Sonic Youth, Polvo, the Intelligence. Hey Mandible play brilliantly angry, darkly accessible rock with an instinctual, gut-level roar of power that hangs on to the melodic groove for dear life. Recommended.

HONEYSUCKLE TEA HOUSE, CHAPEL HILL NC

Just west of the town of Carrboro off North Carolina's State Highway 54 on the way to Saxapahaw is a rural section of Chapel Hill that is home to the Honeysuckle Tea House.  Farm Manager, Nathan Toben, with a team of family and friends, opened Honeysuckle just over two years ago, and have crafted a serene, yet awaking, environment for all of us to experience.

Yes, there is a proper tea house, designed for you to revel in their surroundings.  However, Honeysuckle is much more than the holistic watering hole you might expect.  There is a multi-acre farm where they grow plants to harvest for the teas they serve and berries for various tinctures they sell, all while providing education for the youth in the process.  There are areas for kids to roam free and explore our world, as well as for adults to let their inhibitions go and do the same.

In addition, Honeysuckle Tea House is an amazing venue for live music.  Our very own Tracy Shedd performed at Honeysuckle on Saturday, April 11th on their outdoor stage.  The exquisite settings complimented Tracy's acute melodies to a T (or tea, shall we say; pun intended).  We strongly recommend looking over Honeysuckle's live music calender and going to see a show.  Say "Hello!" to Nathan for us.

TEA TIME WITH TRACY SHEDD

Ladies and gentlemen, please join us this coming Saturday, April 11 from 7:00-9:00pm at the Honeysuckle Tea House in Chapel Hill, North Carolina for a free concert from our very own Tracy Shedd.

"Akin to Hope Sandoval's (Mazzy Star) warm-but-irreverent vocal intonation, Tracy Shedd is an alternative singer-songwriter proper. Teaming with guitarist, James Tritten, the 'slowcore songstress' bares slanted insight and honesty on 'Arizona' (New Granada Records), her most minimal and focused LP to date. Honeysuckle is humbled to have her."  ~ Honeysuckle Tea House
