MOYAMOYA LOVES THEM SOME VINYL RECORDS

Before leaving the Triangle Area of North Carolina, moyamoya made one more record store stop to pick up some vinyl to take back to Florida.  Here is a photo of moyamoya with Kirk Adam, owner of The Record Krate - the best underground (literally) record store in North Carolina!

INDY WEEK WELCOMES MOYAMOYA TO NORTH CAROLINA

"A third of this Jacksonville, Florida, instrumental trio’s nine-day East Coast tour happens in the Triangle; they play Thursday at Slim’s and Friday at The Nightlight, too. The dates stem from a North Carolina connection, as Moyamoya issued a self-titled record back in 2014 on Fort Lowell Records, a label that started in Tucson, Arizona, before rooting itself in Raleigh. Moyamoya is a post-rock band but a captivating one, owing less to build-and-release composition than the abrasive textures of early Maserati records and the puckish humor and prickly tempo shifts of Don Caballero." —Patrick Wall

HEY MANDIBLE GOES DEAF IN 2015

The Quaker Goes Deaf rate Hey Mandible's album The Arse #42 for their Top-50 Best of 2015 List! w00t!w00t!

#42:  Hey Mandible—The Arse   (Fort Lowell/Infintesmal)  New album from band out of Jacksonville, Florida—heavy guitar indie rock with psychedelic outer space noise blasts that mediate the volatile rock ‘n’ roll middle ground between power pop hooks and angry feedback/distorto riffs.  “The Arse” integrates noise and melody in a fluid, punch-you-out hug of addictively dark and challenging song structure, where distortion never overpowers, but always provides a muscular compliment.  These are songs that hit you hard with a punk-edged face-slap that has just the right amount of warmth & sting to call your back again.  500 copies on green marble vinyl, and the cover art by Laura Bearl is a trip. (The 50s housewife taking the smiling little broasted baby out of the oven has horns and furry, hooved legs.)   Similarities to bands like Dumb Numbers, Turn Me On Dead Man, Dinosaur Jr., Mission Of Burma, Black Level Embassy, Sonic Youth, Polvo, the Intelligence.  Hey Mandible play brilliantly angry, darkly accessible rock with an instinctual, gut-level roar of power that hangs on to the melodic groove for dear life.  Recommended.
